Sometimes your local network may be unstable or experience a temporary outage from your internet service provider. Fortunately, you can quickly and easily let your devices borrow data from your mobile phone! This is a perfect, temporary solution to let the Onslip app sync all your sales data in real time and maintain contact with the cloud.
Good to know about your card terminals when switching networks: When you share internet from your phone, you move the Onslip app to a new temporary network. This affects your terminals in the following ways:
Wired (integrated) terminals: Since the Onslip app is now using your phone’s Wi-Fi and the terminal remains connected via a cable to the fixed network, they temporarily cannot communicate with each other. Automatic transaction processing is paused until the fixed network is restored.
Standalone terminals: If the local wired network lacks an internet connection, your standalone terminal will also need a new connection to process payments. If the terminal has its own built-in SIM card (4G), it will work just as usual! If it lacks a SIM card, you can easily connect the terminal to your phone’s Wi-Fi to keep payments running.
1. Enable mobile hotspot on your phone Start by turning on the mobile hotspot feature (sometimes called “Wi-Fi hotspot”) on your phone. Here’s how to do it, depending on your phone model:
For Android phones: Go to → Network & Internet → Mobile Hotspot & Tethering (may also be called “Mobile Hotspot” depending on the model) and enable the feature. Here you can also customize your network name and password if you wish.
For iPhone: Go to Settings → Internet Sharing and turn on “Allow Others to Join.” Here you'll see the Wi-Fi password you'll need to enter shortly. (Cellular data must be turned on for this feature to work.)
2. Connect your device to your phone’s network Now we’ll tell your Onslip device to temporarily listen to your phone instead of the router.
Temporarily minimize the Onslip app. (On older devices: tap the house icon in the bottom-left corner. On the E800 model: swipe up from the bottom of the screen and tap the white circle in the center).
Open your device’s Settings (the gear icon). On older models, you can find Settings by first tapping the icon with the six dots in the top right corner på ikonen med de sex prickarna uppe till höger.
- Select Wi-Fi and make sure it’s turned on.
Select your phone’s network name from the list and enter the password from step 1.
Open the Onslip app again. There you go! Now the device is connected via your phone and you can continue working.
How to switch back to the wired network
Once your provider has resolved the network issue on-site and you want to return to your secure, wired connection, follow these steps:
Minimize the Onslip app as before and open Settings
Select Wi-Fi and turn it off completely (this is important to ensure the device has only one active connection).
Go back to the main menu in Settings and select More.
Tap Ethernet.
Make sure Ethernet is turned on and wait until you see that the device has received a valid IP address (it shouldn’t consist solely of zeros).
Open the Onslip app again. Your device is now safely back on your home network!
